Hunter wellies: festival cliché but good investment

Can I be the first to suggest that, with clouds gathering thick and fast over the UK, you invest in some Hunter wellingtons before you even think about setting foot on a festival site this year? They may have become a cliché, but like all clichés there’s truth involved.

High enough to stop clumps of mud ending up inside your boot, slim enough to look elegant and with the basic advantage of keeping your feet dry there’s little to argue with. Inspired by Coachella, you may have been looking forward to showing off your Prada patent sandals, or had intentions to tramp around in soggy white plimsolls but, come the reality of mudfest, you will be glad of your rubber friends – and as a survivor of last year’s Bestival I speak from experience.

Stick to classic black or chocolate brown – the fancy colours and collaborations never seem to really work (check the Festival-themed ‘caliper’ like monstrosities here). Worn with long shorts, like my favourites by Humor, and an over-sized T-shirt, Hunters still cut the mustard. Trenchfoot was never a good look.
